The Atlanta Psychotherapy Guild
is a group of licensed psychotherapists of many disciplines who have
joined together to offer high quality therapy to the public as well
as to provide a collegial and life enhancing venue for professional
wellbeing. Currently our members include social workers,
pastoral counselors, licensed professional counselors, clinical
nurse specialists, marriage and family therapists, psychologists,
and psychiatrists. The Guild was founded in 1995.
The Guild has a web site
presents information about members' practices to potential
clients. Each therapist's web page features a philosophical
statement, picture, credentials, experience, areas of
specialization, and location of practice. We believe this
information is helpful to potential clients in choosing a therapist,
and is a useful marketing and advertising tool for Guild members.
In addition, the Guild has salons,
events which allow members to network, get support, learn, and
enjoy being with like minded friends who understand and share the
vicissitudes of being a therapist.
Because we are a relatively small group and because we are local, we
have the advantage of seeing each other quite frequently and getting
to know each other well. We know to whom we are referring and
can feel confident about those referrals. It is a place
where new therapists in the area can connect with colleagues
and begin networking. The Guild can respond to the needs of
members whether for a salon topic, a change in the web site, to help
promote a group or a workshop a therapist may be offering, or to
disseminate information to colleagues about practice interests.
The membership fee for the Guild is $90.00 a year plus a one time
web site creation fee of $75. We are able to keep the
fee low because we are a volunteer organization, with a volunteer
board, and members pitch in for events. The low cost makes the
Guild affordable for new and seasoned therapists and makes it
possible to easily discover the benefits of membership.
The Guild also
offers an Associate Membership to recent graduates or any
therapist who is working toward becoming fully licensed in their
profession for independent practice. Associate Members have full
access to the Guild meetings and list-serve but will not have a
professional webpage on the Atlanta Psychotherapy Guild website
until they achieve full licensure. Associate membership is $25 per
